A seaside hotel reopens and needs fifty staff for the season. Students complete its organisation chart, recruit a supervisor with a card sort and a role-play interview, then plan training and motivation within a twelve thousand pound budget. Three lessons for AQA, GCSE Business, with lesson plans and full worked answers.

What is inside

One original, fictional UK case for three 55-minute lessons plus homework with Year 10 or Year 11. A 40-room seaside hotel reopening after a refit must build a team of 50 for its season.

Students complete the hotel's organisation chart and judge delayering and delegation; recruit a supervisor using a job description and person specification card sort, a scoring grid and a paired interview role-play, and compare part-time and zero-hour contracts on cost; then use staff exit comments to plan induction, training and a motivation package within a £12,000 budget, ending with a written recommendation of about 150 words.

The lesson plans name the homework. The final recommendation is written at home from notes made in class, or in part of a fourth lesson.

  1. Lesson1

How should the hotel be organised?

Key-terms starter, 14 role cards, an organisation chart to complete, delayering with a pay-bill calculation, span of control, a centralise-or-delegate card sort.

  2. Lesson2

    Recruiting the team

Recruitment-process ordering, staffing-gap percentages, job description and person specification card sort, a scoring grid with three candidates and a paired interview role-play, contracts and a cost comparison.

  3. Lesson3

    Training and motivating the team

Financial and non-financial motivation, the cost of leavers, induction and training, commission and profit-sharing calculations, the £12,000 motivation-package task and a 150-word recommendation.

Questions

What exactly do I get?

A student workbook and a teacher guide for one original, fictional case. Both come as PDF and as editable Word files. The teacher guide has the lesson plans, full worked answers, completed diagrams and indicative guidance for the written tasks.

Can I edit the files?

Yes. The Word files are editable, so you can change the business name, the figures or the questions before you set it. They were laid out and checked in LibreOffice, not Microsoft Word, so you may see small layout differences in Word; the PDF is the reference layout. The download is a ZIP that opens on Windows and Mac without extra software.

Is it a mark scheme, and is it endorsed?

No to both. The teacher guide gives full answers for calculations and tables, and indicative guidance plus an example answer for each written task. It is not an exam board mark scheme, and the pack awards no marks or grades. It is mapped to the specification by section but is not endorsed by Pearson, and contains no exam board questions.

How does delivery work?

After payment you are sent straight to your download page and get a Stripe receipt by email. The download page is personal to your purchase; bookmark it.

What if something is wrong with my order?

Email support@thebusiness.school. The refund policy covers duplicate charges, files you cannot open and products that do not match their description.
